For successful control, it’s critical to prevent weeds from getting a foothold. Steve Snyder Enlist™ field specialist, says it’s vital to start clean. He says you can accomplish this in Enlist E3® soybeans with a burndown application, with tillage or with a combination of both.
“Any time you can plant soybeans in a clean field, it helps,” Snyder says. “You can follow up with a quality residual herbicide program. Residuals provide a blanket of protection as well as allow you to bring more sites of action to your weed control efforts.”
Quality residuals set up a successful postemergence program.
“Make timely postemergence applications, when weeds are small and actively growing,” Snyder says. “Always plan to spray weeds before they exceed 6 inches tall. That’s almost exactly the length of a dollar bill.”
Following a carefully timed program approach leads to great results, Snyder says. He emphasizes the value of multiple sites of action.
“Each site of action attacks weeds differently,” he explains. “The more sites, the more confident a grower can be about staying on top of weeds.”
Farmers are succeeding with programs that employ three, four, five or even more sites of action. Solid weed control helps preserve yield potential. It also gives weeds less opportunity to develop resistance.
Enlist E3 soybeans give farmers flexibility in creating an effective weed control program.
“Farmers can use trusted residual herbicides such as Sonic, Trivence or Surveil,” Snyder says. “Enlist E3 soybeans are tolerant to three herbicides with different sites of action: 2,4-D choline, glyphosate and glufosinate.
“This offers a huge advantage,” he continues. “It gives you some great post options. For instance, you can use Enlist One® herbicide tank-mixed with Liberty herbicide or glyphosate. Another example is Enlist Duo, which is a combination of 2,4-D choline and glyphosate.”
